I'm Mathieu Servais, an industrial designer and the creator behind @id_curated, where I've been curating the best of product design for several years.

My latest project, Exploded Icons, is a visual series that uncovers the hidden beauty of everyday yet iconic objects.

As a designer, I've always been captivated by how objects work and how they're made: the thoughtfully designed parts that are easy to overlook but essential to making something iconic. That's exactly what an exploded view reveals. Mariano Taccola and Leonardo da Vinci drew them in the Renaissance to study and explain machines, and they're still a staple of the industrial design process, helping designers, engineers and artisans understand how every component fits together.

These are the objects I grew up with and still admire as designs. Each one is carefully modelled in 3D, down to the last detail, and available as a technical illustration or a full-colour render.
